**Direction Sense**

Hello Readers

Today’s topic is Direction Sense.

We will discuss concepts related to direction sense. Generally, in direction sense, two types of questions come in the examinations –

- Distance between the two given points
- Direction of one point from other point

To solve these types of questions, we must know the different types of directions.

## Let’s see how many **Types of directions** – Direction Sense are –

### Now, we will discuss different types of questions which are generally asked in the examinations with the help of examples –

**Example – 1**

X starts from point A and runs 10 km towards North. He takes right turn and runs 15 km. He now runs 6 km after taking a left turn. He finally takes a left turn, runs 15 km and stops at point B.

1) How far is point B from point A?

2) Towards which direction was X moving before it stops at point B?

3) In which direction is point B with respect to point A?

**Solution –**

1) How far is point B from point A?

Distance = (10 + 6) km = 16 km

2) Towards which direction was X moving before it stops at point B?

**Solution –** West Direction

3) In which direction is point B with respect to point A?

**Solution –** North Direction

**Example 2 **

A bus started moving towards west and stopped at Point X after covering 10 km. It then takes a right turn and stopped at Point Y after covering 12 km. Finally it takes a left turn, covers 6 km and stops at point Z. What is the distance between the starting point and stopping point?

**Solution –**

* Note –* In this case, we have to find the slanting distance between two points. So, to find slanting distance we use Pythagoras Theorem –

**Example 3 **

If at 3 pm, the shadow of a person is on his right, then which direction is the person facing?

**Solution –**

This example is based on Shadows. So let’s first understand this concept and then we will solve this example.

To understand this concept, we must understand that how direction of shadow changes with the change in direction of sun.

Now, let’s solve the example –

So, the person is facing north.

With this, we will finish this topic here.
